Fethiye
This Harbour town once known as Telmessos sits in a bay overlooked by the Ancient Rock tombs. Here you will see many examples of Sarcophagi and Rock Tombs the most impressive being that of Amyntas dating from the 4th cent. Fethiye also has a museum that contains some excellent exhibits from the Lycian Period. The old town of Telmessos lies under the modern town of Fethiye. Telmessos was destroyed during an earthquake; a subsequent earthquake in 1957 totally devastated the town leaving only one area unscathed. This area is called Paspatur, here you can see many fine examples of Greek and Ottoman architecture. An amphitheatre and a Medieval Castle Can also be seen at the acropolis of Telmessos hill.
